Classic Ellen Sandweiss in acrylic, 20x16 inches

Description

The famous shot of Ellen Sandweiss in "The Evil Dead" (1981) in acrylic, 20x16 inches. I don't paint much (I would like to do it more) and this was something bright and colorful and fun to practice my acrylic painting skills.

I had some time to kill last night and spent maybe 6-7 hours altogether, this is my first "traditional portrait" painting, in that I used vine charcoal for the layout (freehand), and did the grayscale "underpainting" with black, and then went over with misc. opaque areas and color washes. I didn't use any glaze (though I have some) I just watered it down so it was almost like watercolors for the washes (I like acrylic better than watercolor, it seems to "hold" better").

I haven't done much with acrylic (this makes acrylic painting #9, and #8 was a year ago) but all the experience with the pencil drawing and photo manipulation have given me a better visual comprehension, and I was pleasantly surprised to see that it all applies with real paints.

I'm getting into traditional portraiture and adding the painting skills seems like a natural next step...this is sort of a portrait, but obviously not exactly :) Artificial bright colors are much easier than realistic skin tone, this seemed safer to start with..

yes......awesome.  Good for you for picking such an iconic character from a movie.  Nice traditional work as well.  Great all around.
